Memory method

By drawing two covered words that were collected on a specific topic, new sentences are formed, for example, time plus Internet becomes 'The Internet is timeless'.

Organisation

  • Duration
    Short (up to 30 minutes)
  • Complexity
    Medium
  • Group size
    5 to 10 persons

This activity is not suitable online.

Description Long

Within two minutes, all workshop participants note as many terms as they can on a piece of paper. They are placed on the table, covered. The first participant randomly selects two pieces paper and creates a term or a sentence from the terms. Participants describe the term or sentence in great detail and discuss its relevance to the topic.

Preparation

  1. Take two minutes to write down terms on pieces of paper.
  2. Check the terms.
  3. Turn the pieces of paper upside down and shuffle.
  4. Workshop participants take turns to reveal the terms.
  5. Form new terms or sentences.

Execution

An umbrella topic must be defined before the workshop participants start writing down the terms. Random terms make it difficult to create a topic-related sentence. Check to ensure that the terms do not come up repeatedly before they are turned over.

Hints from experience

This exercise can be conducted indoors or outdoors.
