Public actions are targeted, creative events held in public spaces that draw attention to a specific topic or form part of a wider project. They may be artistic, social or political in nature.
Public actions are spontaneous or planned performances designed to surprise people, spark reflection, or simply spread joy. They are often linked to a project or message, and though planned in advance, they are carried out with a playful, improvised touch. These actions are usually documented on film.
One common form is the flash mob (from flash, meaning “sudden”, and mob, meaning “crowd”) – a short, seemingly spontaneous gathering in a public place where participants do something eye-catching. Other examples include having breakfast with neighbours in the street, walking barefoot with friends through the city centre, or hosting a party in a car park rented via a parking meter.
