Planning: Concept

This method promotes the structured development of creative ideas in a short, dynamic workshop. Time pressure, changes in environment, and group work lead to innovative concepts that are then discussed, combined, and selected within the team.

Organisation

  • Duration
    Long (more than 1 hour)
  • Complexity
    Simple
  • Group size
    1 to 100 persons

This activity is not suitable online.

Description Long

The workshop is divided into five phases. Initially, ideas are gathered and displayed on an idea wall. Each participant then develops new concepts under time pressure, which are expanded through individual input and changes of environment. In the group, the best approaches are presented, combined, and evaluated. The goal is to select a viable idea.

The workshop should last approximately 15 to 20 minutes and, if a creative solution or idea is needed, should be conducted roughly once a week during the team meeting. In addition to the upload and final discussion, the workshop consists of three main parts, each lasting five minutes: five minutes for collecting ideas under time pressure, five minutes for refining ideas and incorporating new input, and five minutes for group exchange.

Preparation

  • Print the template.
  • Prepare pens and Post-its.

Execution

  1. Uploading: Collect initial ideas on Post-its and pin them to the idea wall.
  2. Idea generation (5 minutes): Write down an idea for 30 seconds and then pass it to a team member.
  3. Idea expansion (5 minutes): After five minutes, each team member takes the paper they have and spends five minutes somewhere else adding new ideas to it.
  4. Exchange (5 minutes): Everyone returns and presents the best idea on their sheet – the ideas are combined and expanded.
  5. Selection: Finally, the group selects one idea.

Hints from experience

  • Use an inspiring space to encourage creativity (not the workplace), e.g. on the sofa, at the break table, in the coffee corner, outside...
