Description Long

Lighting is essential for good film shots and can also be used as a creative tool. There are natural and artificial light sources that can be used during filming. Knowledge of how to properly use light sources is fundamental to the filming process.

Lighting has a decisive influence on the aesthetics and quality of video recordings. This method explains the basics of lighting, including three-point lighting and the creative use of both natural and artificial light sources. The goal is to achieve professional results, even with minimal resources. Special emphasis is placed on working with low-budget solutions, such as reflectors and natural light.

Preparation

  • Check the filming location, weather, and lighting conditions.
  • Bring and test hardware (lights, reflectors).
  • Practice lighting techniques.

Execution

  1. Choose a well-lit location for filming (e.g. interviews).
  2. Use three-point lighting: key light, fill light, and back light.
  3. Avoid backlighting. If unavoidable, close the curtains or lower the blinds.
  4. Use the window as a natural light source. If the light is insufficient, the room lighting can be switched on. For challenging lighting situations (a mix of daylight and artificial light), perform a manual white balance.
