This activity is not suitable online.

Description Long

This method combines classic mind mapping with an interactive and flexible structure. It enables groups to collect ideas quickly, organise them visually, and encourage discussion. The mind map is built in three rounds, each using a different colour. On a flipchart, the central term (prior knowledge/task/ideas) is written in the middle. Working individually, each participant writes down terms that spontaneously come to mind on a Post-it note (first colour). These Post-its are then discussed and organised as a group before being placed on the flipchart. This process is repeated with the two remaining Post-it colours. Each round is limited to one minute, followed by a six-minute discussion.

Preparation

  • Prepare Post-it notes in three different colours and pens.
  • Prepare a flipchart with the key terms.
  • Choose some music.
  • Have a stopwatch ready.

Execution

  • The method and procedure are explained.
  • Each participant writes down terms on the first colour of Post-it notes that come to mind in relation to the core term (1 minute).
  • The Post-its are then discussed and organised, and stuck onto the flipchart (6 minutes).
  • This process is repeated twice, each time using the other two colours of Post-it notes.
  • During the individual work phases, music is played for one minute each time.

Hints from experience

  • Take a photo of the mind map so that the results can be documented and used later.
