Future Storytelling (deutsch: Zukunftsgeschichten)

Participants write a short story set in the future, using a topic or keywords they have received through previous exercises. The story is shared in the group afterwards.

Description Long

Each participant writes a short fictional story set in the future. The story should include:

  • One or more characters

  • A topic or keywords provided beforehand

  • A clear and engaging title

  • A maximum reading time of 1.5 minutes (roughly 200–300 words)

After 20 minutes of writing time, each participant reads their story aloud to the group.

Preparation

  • Select or generate topics/keywords through other creative techniques (e.g. word associations, image prompts, or group brainstorming).
  • Prepare a writing template (digital or paper) with fields for topic/keywords, title, and story body.
  • Ensure all participants have a quiet space to write, and set a visible timer for 20 minutes.

Execution

  1. Brief participants on the aim of the exercise: writing a short future-oriented story using the given input.

  2. Provide each person with the keywords/topic.

  3. Allow 20 minutes for writing.

  4. Each participant reads their story aloud (max. 1.5 minutes).

Hints from experience

  • Use a visible countdown timer to keep the group on track.
  • Keep track of who wrote which story and what it is about, so that giving feedback is easier.
