Drawing Method

The Drawing Method is a creative group technique in which participants collaboratively develop ideas through visual means. Each person begins with a simple sketch on a given topic, passes it on, and allows others to add to it. This process results in varied and inspiring concepts that can be developed further at a later stage.

Genaue Beschreibung

Participants sit in a circle. Each person draws their idea on an A3 sheet of paper based on a given topic. The sheet is then passed to the left and added to by each participant. The last person to receive the drawing interprets it, and the group members then explain what their original ideas were. A creative concept is then developed using Post-its, drawings, labels, or cut-out elements. Finally, the concept is presented to the whole group.

Vorbereitung

  • Prepare A3 sheets, pens, scissors, coloured paper, glue sticks, and Post-its.

Durchführung

  1. Groups of three to four participants are formed. Each person receives an A3 sheet. Everyone has 1.5 minutes to draw their own ideas on the sheet. When the time is up, the sheet is passed to the left. It is passed on two or three times, with each person adding to the existing drawing. After the second or third round, the final person interprets the drawing. Total time: 25 minutes.
  2. In groups of two to three, one idea is developed into a concept (by cutting, sticking, assembling), which is then given a name. At the end, the concept is presented to the whole group. Total time: 30 to 40 minutes.

Tipps aus der Praxis

  • Not everyone enjoys drawing, so it’s important to emphasise that accuracy or artistic quality is not the focus.
  • The drawings should be kept simple rather than detailed, in order to leave room for additions.
