Break without digital accompaniment

This method is designed to give workshop participants a break without digital devices. This is to encourage conversations among the participants and to not have to think about the digital world for once. The focus should be on the fellow human being or nature and not on a screen.

Genaue Beschreibung

The workshop participants are sent into the break without digital devices. In this way, more conversations take place in the group and the participants can better process what they have experienced. Of course, it would be ideal if the participants could talk about the workshop, but this can only be controlled very poorly. For example, the participants could be given an assignment or a question to ask during the break. In principle, however, this break should serve as a rest. As an additional challenge, the participants can be told that they should be back after a certain time. This could be a small challenge for some participants, as they might not wear a watch, which in turn could make them think: "How dependent am I on digital devices?", "Could I even go a day without my mobile phone?

Vorbereitung

A box or case in which the mobile phones / digital devices can be collected.

Durchführung

The facilitators announce the break and collect the mobile phones / digital devices.

Tipps aus der Praxis

In the era of COVID-19, it is essential to carry your smartphone with you, as many of the participants have their certificate stored on it. If the certificate was needed for an admission check after the break, the facilitators would have to be ready with the mobile phone at the admission check after the break.
